As the Lord wills the Youth Sports Ministry will be beginning its seventh year of ministry this March. Certainly God's blessings have been evident year after year. Each year His ministry to players and their families has been something to behold. Soccer has been the main sport, but baseball and basketball have also been used for "seasons" of ministry. The emphasis is on the family, with weekly devotional studies guiding players through a personal study of the Word with times of devotion and discussion with their families. Teams get together before every game to review and discuss their studies for the week.

Discipleship and spiritual growth are strengthened on the field as well, as players learn to compete in ways pleasing to the Lord, and parents and other spectators encourage and support in ways pleasing to Him as well. Of course, much fun and fellowship is experienced by all!

Last year we were blessed to return to the fields at California Baptist University for our soccer season, and we will once again play there this year. Praise God for this answer to prayer! The facilities at CBU are such a great fit for this ministry. Keep praying for this ministry throughout this soccer season and also for this summer, as we consider other sports to offer.

Regarding the upcoming soccer season, please read through these Frequently Asked Questions:

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can play?

Answer: Young people ages 5 to 14 years who regularly attend Harvest Christian Fellowship.

Do we play other churches?
Answer: No. All teams who play are from our congregation only. We will field about 16-20 teams.

When and Where are the games played?
Answer: All games for all ages will be played between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays at California Baptist University ( On Magnolia Ave ¼ mile south of Adams Ave).

What about practices?
Answer: Everyone practices on Wednesday evenings between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at CBU. (Note: Actual practice time may be shorter, depending on coach and age of players on team.)

When does the season start, and how long does it last?
To be announced...

What about costs?
Answer: Ministry registration fees are $45 for the first child, and $40 for each additional child for families with more than one child registering. These fees do not constitute payment for a league, but support for the Youth Sports Ministry. Parents must still volunteer 2-5 hours with the ministry. Registered players are given a jersey. Players will need to purchase their own shorts, (black with no pockets), cleats, shin guards, and socks. Only players properly equipped are allowed to play.

I heard something about devotions. What is that about?
Answer: Each week coaches will hand out devotion studies to every player. It is required of each player to return with completed study the following week for discussion and team devotion time. It is our hope that players will work through these devotions with their parents and families.

I was put on a waiting list. What does that mean?
Answer: Some age divisions may have more players wanting to sign up than the coaches and other volunteers necessary to accommodate them. Until others step forward who are willing to serve, spaces will be limited and the remainder will go on the waiting list.

I would like to serve in this ministry. Do I need experience?
Answer: What is needed is a willing and loving heart, and an evidently committed relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.
